Since you’re coming to this here page, we’re guessing that means you want to know a little about this food blog and what exactly goes on here.

Allow Us to Introduce Ourselves

We’re Brian (on the left) and Janine (on the right). Together, we write, cook, take pictures, and learn about the food you’ll see here on Arousing Appetites.

We’re what you could call “adventurous eaters,” although we have a soft spot for keeping things simple. Our favorite meals are typically very humble, achievable at home and are packed with flavor from easily source-able ingredients. Fair warning: we’re liberal users of garlic, onions and hot peppers.

We don’t follow any specific diet, but we are healthy eaters and strive to use high-quality, all-natural and clean ingredients in our recipes.

What is Arousing Appetites About?

We are (and this food blog is) on a quest to explore the depths and hidden treasures of one of our favorite subjects: food. More specifically, we’re all about the pursuit of learning the recipes, cooking methods, ingredients and anything else that makes cuisines around the world so special and unique from the rest.

Here’s how it works. Each week, we cover two new recipes from two cuisines from around the world. Each post will contain a recipe that is particularly traditional or special or popular (ideally all three) to the cuisine itself.

By the time you see the post, the recipe will have already been rigorously tested, and we’ll have developed our own version of the recipe that carefully balances authenticity, simplicity and overall healthiness.

We’re Here to Be Your Guinea Pigs

Our goal with this food blog is to take out any of the guesswork for you and make new recipes and new cuisines just a little more digestible.

Here’s a quick taste of what you should expect to get from this food blog…

  1. Exposure to new, delicious recipes from all over the world (no stone left unturned)
  2. Inspiration and meal ideas that you might have never otherwise thought of
  3. Careful, thoughtful analysis about every single recipe – especially when it comes to making healthier adjustments and re-proportioning for a true family dinner (i.e. not for an army)
  4. An unbiased second opinion about the actual “cookability” of any particular recipe
  5. At least one fun, whimsical backstory about the recipe and its hometown cuisine

And hopefully much, much more that we can’t figure out right now.
